The President and C.E.O. of Tech South East, Doug has been active in the innovation domain for 17 years, most recently serving as the Director of Innovation Policy and Research Projects for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. He has contributed to numerous regional and national innovation policy committees and reviews and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Technopolicy Network, an international organization focused on science-based regional development, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA). Doug was also the founding Chair of the Moncton Technology Planning Group, local industry and institutional leaders focused on accelerating the growth of technology-based business and entrepreneurship in south east New Brunswick.
Doug was a member of the City Council of Moncton from 2001 to 2008, serving on numerous Committees and Boards. As the inaugural Chair of the Economic Affairs Committee of Council, he led the development of the city’s first economic development strategy within which priority was placed on expanding the city’s knowledge-based and creative sectors, strengthening the linkages between education and industry and adopting the intelligent communities agenda.
Doug holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University. Passionate about his community, Doug is active with numerous organizations including the PGI Tournament for Literacy Cabinet, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada Campaign Cabinet and the advisory committee for the Athletics South East Association. He was recently appointed Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Track and Field Championships.
Barbara Ells: Manager of Programs and Member Relations
As the Manager, Programs and Member Relations for Tech South East, Barb acts as the key conduit between Tech South East and the Tech South East member community. Her primary responsibility is the development and delivery of business programming, speaker and sponsorship acquisition, and member relations.
Barb has spent her career in the life science industry, most recently as co-founder and Marketing and Product Manager of Ionalytics Corporation, a spin-out from the National Research Council's Institute for National Measurement Standards in Ottawa. She brings experience working in scientific research, product development, product management, and marketing communications. As a member of the management team at Ionalytics, she played an important role in identifying priorities for the start-up company and developing and implementing strategies to drive its success.
Barb holds a BSc (Hon) from Dalhousie University and a PhD (Analytical Chemistry) from the University of Alberta. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Unicorn Children's Centre and a member of the organizing committee for Wine, Women, and Wellness, an annual event in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Sally Ng: Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator
In Sally’s role as Tech South East’s Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator, she develops and implements our strategic communications initiatives. Sally is focused on increasing awareness of Tech South East, its member community, partnering organizations, stakeholders, as well as the tech sector in South East New Brunswick.
Sally was named one of the Top 50 Emerging Leaders in Atlantic Canada by 21Inc in 2010. She was a member of the ChemGreen Innovation Team who won the 2009 New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) BreakThru Business Plan Competition. Sally was featured on the cover of Progress Magazine as one of top 20 “People we love” who represent the spirit of Progress (Vol.16 No. 3). Recognized as a post-secondary activist and business innovator, Sally’s entrepreneurial spirit and dynamic background will bring forth new initiatives to engage our members and community.
Sally holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University and her Commercial Pilot's License from Moncton Flight College. She is a member of the Greater Moncton Women’s Progress Club. Sally remains heavily involved in developing leadership and citizenship values in the next generation through her commitment to the Canadian Cadet Movement where she is an officer with the Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC), branch of the Canadian Forces. Sally is an Alumna of Canada World Youth, Youth Leaders in Action Program and took part in an intercultural exchange in Ontario and Tanzania in 2009.
